Case Study
Hans Place, SW1X

Scope of Works:

Description:

Insertion of air vents, repointing, brickwork repairs and replacement

The Red Brick and Stone design of 47 Hans Place, following the Arts & Crafts architectural style of Voysey & Macmurdo, was starting to show signs of wear in 2006. The expertise of C&D Restoration was brought in to restore and stabilise the building façade whilst maintaining the integrity of the architecture.

The fractured stonework was reinforced using stainless steel pinning and resin injection. Attention was then turned to the decorative moulded panels and cornices. A mild chemical solution was used in conjunction with the low pressure super heated DOFF system to strip paint from them, leaving them ready for repair.

We then applied our specialist techniques to carry out extensive stone repair on the following aspects of the building:

  • Re-run of all string courses

  • Fixing of Mullions and transoms

  • Fixing of Coping stones, Mullions and Transoms

  • Moulded Cornices and Cross finials

Also carried out was a full clean to the brickwork at both the front and rear of the property using the JOS/TORC cleaning system, and full restoration works to the first floor balcony. As with all of our projects, we ensured that only the highest quality of workmanship and materials were used to maintain the longevity and architectural character of the building.
